Admissions

  1. Relevant documentation is received by the school from the Local Authority (LA).
  2. Headteacher passes documentation on to Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who will then read it and pass it on to relevant staff, i.e, Key Stage Co-ordinator and possible form tutor to consider. The school’s Head of Student Care is informed of any social care issues such as Looked After Children (LAC) or Child Protection (CP).
  3. Preliminary feedback to SENCO, Headteacher and other relevant staff.
  4. Decision made if not an appropriate application OR if a possible appropriate placement.
  5. SENCO contacts LA and family for a visit.
  6. Decision made.
  7. Consideration given to next step –
    • trial visit for agreed time
    • assessment placement for up to two terms
    • dual roll placement for agreed days and timespan
    • or full time placement
  8. Agreement with LA and family as to next course of action. This is to be shared with relevant staff by SENCO with dates and times etc AND dates of any agreed reviews.
  9. Key Stage Co-ordinator informed and new class tutor/TA/staff give outline of new pupil’s needs by the creation of a pupil profile.
  10. SENCO liaises with office staff about student on roll and any special arrangements i.e. Occupational Therapy (OT), physio, medical, diet, mobility or personal care.
  11. SENCO co-ordinates all the above.
